Getting children to try new foods or even to eat is a trying job. The best thing to do is not make a big deal about it. Children will react to an adults or another child’s attitude towards food.
I have always found when trying to get a child to try a new food give them a small amount. I would say “You do not know if you like it if you never tried it”. I would then give them some food they liked and leave it at that. They say you need to try something 20-25 times before you will like it. Wow!! This could take awhile but well worth it.
Remember children go through food jags. One day they may want seconds and the next day they may hardly eat anything. This is normal! Do not force a child to eat. As long as you offer them food they will never starve.
If you have another child in your home who is a good eater, offer them the new food first. Usually, a child will follow what another child is doing. Never offer bribes or rewards for eating certain foods. This gives a message that certain foods are not desirable.
Lastly, sit back and relax!! You picky child will grow up to be a great eater!!
