Running a Pre-School is always very interesting. Every day is a new adventure and a learning experience for me and my staff. The most enjoyable part of the day is talking with the children and hearing their comments and watching them interact with each other.
I’m sure as a parent you hear some interesting stuff too. Children are so innocent and trusting. They take things so literal and believe most of the stuff we tell them. Knowing this, as a parents we need to be aware of what we say and do. Children learn from mimicking others.
For example, a 1-year-old learns by watching, listening than they process what they have seen and heard and finally they will attempt to copy a behavior. Toddlers and Pre-Schoolers on the other hand are like mini people. They imitate us so it’s important to keep these point in mind:
· Be good role model – Make healthy choices when eating, do not smoke, be nice to others.
· Make safety a top priority – Keep an eye on your child at all times. It only takes a second for them to get into trouble. Since they love to mimic us be especially careful in the kitchen and around hot items.
· Distract when necessary – We do not want to discourage our children from learning but at times they will need to be distracted or redirected for their own good.
The most important thing to remember is to have fun and enjoy every day with your child. They grow up so fast and you can get back this time which I feel is so precious.
